December 2011
May I begin by wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah and Happy Holidays! I wish a Healthy, Happy New Year to you and your family!
We began our GBYC holiday celebrations with the annual Deck the Halls decorating night with members of the club joining Marianne Crabtree and the Entertainment Committee. I want to thank everyone, as the club looks great. And thanks to the Power Squadron for donating our Christmas Wreaths.
Santa’s Breakfast was a huge success. Ray Griffin was a wonderful Santa, again. Santa arrived by way of the new Greenwich Police Boat. Many children, old and young were thrilled to tell Santa what they want for Christmas. Thanks to all that attended this great Holiday breakfast.
I would like to give a special thanks to the Entertainment Committee, Kim Bruce and Marianne Crabtree, for a wonderful Holiday Cocktail Party. Over 80 members were in attendance. I can’t remember such a great turnout with the club looking so festive. The food was plentiful and delicious! Thanks again for all the members who came out to celebrate and brought appetizers and desserts. A special thinks to Betty Shopivick who loaned the club her candelabras. They added such elegance to the atmosphere.
I would like to thank Bill Bennett, Chairman of the Nominating Committee including, John Callahan, Dave Elliot, Peter Silbereison and Frank Kazmarski for their time and dedication while providing the 2012 Officers and Trustees Slate.
The slate this year is as follows:
Commodore – Michael Curley
Vice Commodore – Kim Bruce
Rear Commodore – Ray Griffin
Fleet Captain – George Dey
Corresponding Secretary – Sue Howley
Recording Secretary – Mike DeVita
House Treasurer – Rich Koch
Marina Treasurer – Vincent Hackett
Trustees - Cal Darula Jr., Jeff Thompson, Scott Benedict, Bill Sherwood, Steve Rosa and Kevin Kegan
Please note that John Lagano, seconded by Chuck Bologna, nominated Jared Feldman for Rear Commodore off the floor. There will be an election at the Annual Members Meeting, January 11, 2012. Please come out and vote for this Officer Position. Thank you.
I also want to thank Bob O’Brien, a past Commodore, for his time on the Board. It takes a tremendous amount of time and attention to be a part of the Board and I truly appreciate his guidance, and support. I wish you well in whatever your newly found free time allows you!
Jared Feldman is retiring as Marina Treasurer after 4 years and I want to thank him for contributing so much of his time to this position. Marina Treasurer is a time consuming job and Jared really did a great job, Thanks again.
We also need to thank Marianne Crabtree for her dedication and hard work as Corresponding Secretary. Thank you, Marianne for all you have given the GBCY these last 3 years.
We were pleased to present Vinnie Hackett with the Underwater Exploration Award. Vinnie, you are in good company with this award. I encourage all members to check out this fun plaque next time you are in the club.
Please know that we still have make up work party assignments. The ice heaters need to be installed. If you are interested in helping with this project please get in touch with our Fleet Captain, George Dey (gbycfleetcaptain@gbyc.org) or me. Thank you.
It is rental season; please get in touch with Bill Sherwood, our House Chairman, if you have interest in renting the club.
The new thermostats are up and running. Thank you Bruce Robinson and Bill Sherwood. Simply press the button and you will automatically get 3 hours of heat. It will automatically shut off – this will be the same for the cooling season.
George Dey, our Fleet Captain, and I are asking anyone who joined in July or August of this past summer and sent in a request letter for a slip to get in touch with us. It seems that one was returned to the owner. We want to make sure that your name is properly dated on the Waiting List. Thank you.
Also, the GBYC is hosting a GEMS CPR training that will be held on February 25th. Reservations only. We are aiming for 18 members and this is first come first serve. Please know that the cost of the session is $40 Per member. Thank you, Jared, for organizing this informative event.
Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!
Respectfully submitted,
Michael Curley (commodore@gbyc.org)
Commodore
Kim Bruce and Marianne Crabtree would like to thank everyone who volunteered during the year: whether it was to help with an event, cleanup after a party, plant flowers etc. It's this spirit and commitment that makes the Club the wonderful place that it is!
