Our Latest Newsletter:

From the Bridge
May 2010

…and then there are days that are glorious, that make it worth getting through the winter. Our Commissioning Day this past May 15th was definitely “one of those days”. The weather was beautiful, perfect if you will, with plenty of sunshine and a cool breeze.

The Club has never looked better and the celebration was so well attended. In addition to the many GBYC members, all three Selectman attended as well as Officers from each of the Town’s Yacht Clubs and representatives from the Marine Police, the Fire Department and Greenwich Parks and Recreation. Again, I’d like to thank Kim Bruce, Marianne Crabtree and the Entertainment Committee who worked so hard to organize this event and it showed. Food was provided by GBYC member Tony Longo and his Park Deli and we danced the night away with music from DJ Doug Ferony. It was a wonderful evening and I truly appreciate everyone who came out to celebrate the 72nd Commissioning of our Club with me. And, of course, thank you to everyone who helped with the set-up and clean-up especially Steve Rosa, Maureen Johnson, Joe Hvlia, Mary Gibbons, Margarete Catalano, Bob Holland, and Shane Curley and to everyone else who helped make this evening such a great success.

We have started our year long Fishing Contest.

I have asked Scott Benedict, Chris Lagano, and Cal Darula to help me organize, coordinate and officiate this yearly contest. Rules will be posted in the utility room. A box to hold the weigh-in cards and a scale will also be in the utility room. The Bragger’s Board will be hung next to the ice machine. Good luck to everyone!

I will be including the leaders in the newsletter each month

  • Max Lagano is the leader in the Fluke category with a 4.12lb Fluke.
  • Joe Kralik just knocked Bob Lagano’s 35.3lb Stripper out of the lead for Strippers with a 38lb fish.

Please let Steve Rosa, our Fleet Captain, know you are bringing your boat in. Steve asks that you give him a 3 day notice. Thank you.

Our new Card Key System will be issued shortly. The old cards will work until we have issued the new cards. Please see me if you have not ordered cards or if you would like order additional cards. Cards are $10 each. We also have key – fobs that cost $20.00 each.

Night Watch – once again we need to remind everyone to check your Night Watch schedule. If you cannot make your Night Watch night please find someone to take your place. While on Night Watch please make sure to take down the flag, check the docks, turn off the gas grills and lock the doors. I want to thank everyone in advance for your dedication to the safety of the club.

It really seems as if summer has finally arrived and I would like feedback to see if anyone is interested in a casual dock party or a local rendezvous at either Cold Spring Harbor or Oyster Bay. Look for flyers for coming events not to be missed.

Reminder to anyone who needs to make up work time……there is till plenty to do, so please contact me.

Please respect the flag. If you are having your morning coffee at the club, and see that the flag has not been raised, please take the honor of raising the flag for the day.

Attention all slipholders……………….the carts are to be returned to the parking lot so that other members may use them, not left on the docks.

I am looking forward to a great summer!

Respectfully submitted,
Michael Curley,
Commodore
